We hire

Photonics Engineer

Twin Photonics | Full-time | On-site, Hannover, Germany

Twin Photonics is a deep-tech startup based in Hannover, Germany, developing the world’s first fully integrated, chip-based entangled photon pair sources: turnkey quantum light sources that form the backbone of quantum communication, quantum sensing, and quantum internet. As we move from prototype to product, we are looking for a photonics engineer to help with our optical and electronic hardware development. This is a technically demanding role at the intersection of integrated photonics and precision electronics.

What you’ll do

  • Further develop and specify on-chip optical structures, optimizing for performance, tolerances, and testability in coordination with measurement, packaging, and system requirements
  • Design low-noise current and voltage sources, driver circuits, and protection concepts (including EMC-compliant design) for PIC control and actuation
Implement fast stabilization and control loops: signal conditioning, filtering, stability analysis, commissioning & validation
  • Integrate hardware into measurement and automation environments
  • Build and operate portable demonstrator systems for use in the field
  • Run on-site technical demonstrations at customer and partner locations, adapting setups to specific requirements and handling fault analysis on-site
  • Maintain full documentation (schematics, layouts, BOMs, test reports) and develop partially automated test and calibration routines
  • Drive design iterations systematically from measurement data

What we’re looking for

  • B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, (Applied) Physics, Microsystems Engineering, or similar
  • Hands-on experience in analog and digital electronics development: schematic design, PCB layout, prototype bring-up and debugging
  • Experience with precision low-noise circuits: references, amplifiers, filters, measurement paths
  • Solid expertise in control engineering: PID loops, stability and bandwidth analysis for fast, robust stabilization
  • Confident with lab instruments: oscilloscope, multimeter, function generator; spectrum analyzer or DAQ experience is a plus
  • Understanding of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) or optoelectronic systems, particularly the optics/electronics interface: control, drift, and noise
  • Scripting skills for test automation, preferably Python
  • Clear communication in German & English, written and spoken
  • Structured, self-directed working style with a strong sense of ownership
